Dr. Hassan Al Thani, PhD, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar 

Dr. Hassan Al Thani is the Head of Trauma and Vascular Surgery Sections of Hamad General Hospital, Chairperson of the ACS (ATLS) Committee on Trauma in Qatar, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as other institutions in the UK and Canada. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his surgical training in Qatar and Canada. He completed his training in General Surgery, Trauma, and Vascular Surgery at McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences in Hamilton, Canada.  He then joined Hamad General Hospital as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Surgery.  In the same year, he established the Vascular Surgery Section. He has a master’s degree in Logistics Hospitals Management from the International Transport and Logistics Institute – Cairo, Egypt, and recently finished his International Executive master’s Degree in Emergency and Disaster Management at Georgetown University, Qatar.  

Dr. Al Thani is the author or co-author of more than 300 publications and peer-reviewed articles and has nine book chapters. Additionally, Dr. Al Thani was involved in several administrative duties, which included Board Member of Hamad Medical Corporation from 2006-2008, Chairman of the Organ Transplant Committee from 2008-2009, Board Member of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar from 2008 - 2012, Executive Board Member of the Gulf Vascular Society from 2007, President of the Gulf Vascular Society from 2009, and Board Member of Qatar Medical College among others. Dr. Sandro Rizoli, PhD, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar 

Dr. Sandro Rizoli received his Doctor of Medicine degree and completed a General Surgery residency in Brazil. He moved to Canada in 1992 and underwent a second residency in General Surgery at the University of Toronto. Two fellowships followed the Residency in Trauma and Critical Care as well as a PhD. In 2002 he joined the University of Toronto and the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as Associate Professor of Surgery and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Rizoli was promoted to Full Professor in 2012. Dr. Rizoli received two endowed chairs: The De Souza Chair and the St. Michael’s and University of Toronto Endowed Chair in Trauma Research. Dr. Rizoli was the President of the Trauma Association of Canada, the Panamerican Trauma Society, and Chair of the Region XII (East Canada) of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

Currently, he has over 300 peer-reviewed publications, supervised numerous PhD, MSc, fellows, residents, and students. Dr. Andrew W Kirkpatrick CD MD MSc FRCSC FACS, Foothills Medical Center, Calgary, Alberta; Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Calgary and the former Director of Trauma Services.

Dr. Kirkpatrick graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Ottawa, with fellowships in Surgery and Critical Care at the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology at the University of British Columbia.  

He is past President of the Trauma Association of Canada and Abdominal Compartment Society.  Dr. Kirkpatrick has more than 560 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, mainly concerning telemedicine, intra-abdominal hypertension, and aerospace medicine.  He is a past-President of the Trauma Association of Canada and the Abdominal Compartment Society, as well as past executive member of the Canadian Emergency Ultrasound Society and the Canadian Association of General Surgeons Evidence Based Reviews in Surgery Committees.  He has consulted for the Canadian Space Agency and the National Space and Aeronautical Agencies.  He retains a reserve commission in the Canadian Forces and has served overseas in both Gulf War One and in Afghanistan.  He is a former Paratrooper and Flight Surgeon and currently maintains a private pilot’s license. Ayman El-Menyar is a Professor of Clinical Research in Trauma and Vascular Surgery at Hamad General Hospital and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College since 2007. He is a Principal Research Scientist at HMC. He also worked as a cardiologist in the field of Clinical Cardiology from 1993 until June 2011. Dr. Gustav Strandvik, MD, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar  
Dr. Gustav Frans Strandvik graduated from the University of Cape Town Medical School in Cape Town, South Africa in 1997. He completed his post-graduate training in Anesthesia and Critical Care at Guy’s & St Thomas’, Royal Brompton, and University College Hospitals in London, United Kingdom.  He is currently Senior Consultant in the Trauma Surgery Section of Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar. He joined the Trauma Surgery Section in 2016 and is currently serving as the Director of the Trauma ICU.  He is an educator and has a keen interest in organ donation and clinically-based research.  He has recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education at the University of Edinburgh.  His main areas of expertise within the hospital are Trauma Intensive Care and Medical education.  He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, Fellow of the Royal College of Anesthetists, UK, and a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, UK. He has authored several book chapters in critical care, anesthesia and trauma, and has published articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.  His current research interests include similarities and differences in critical illness when the primary insult is trauma. He firmly believes that physiologically based, evidence-driven, and diligently applied medical skills, knowledge and professionalism will, as a matter of course, result in sustained quality improvement for patients. Dr. Luis Teodoro da Luz, MD MSc; Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada
Dr. Luis da Luz has General, Trauma Surgery, and Critical Care Medicine backgrounds. He is a Staff Physician in the Division of General Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Head of trauma Team Leader - Tory Trauma Program at Sunnybrook. Dr. da Luz is appointed the inaugural Co-Chair of the Trauma Team Leaders Committee at the Trauma Association of Canada. Dr. da Luz has been appointed as Surgeon-Investigator and as Associate Professor, at the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is a clinical researcher with an MSc in clinical epidemiology at U of T. and an Associate Scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute. His research program focuses on improving the management of severely injured, bleeding, and coagulopathic trauma patients during the initial phases of their care. This also includes improvement in trauma resuscitation enhancing team performance in the trauma bay. Dr. Rafael Consunji is the Director of the Hamad Injury Prevention Program and a Consultant of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at the Hamad Trauma Center, Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Qatar. Dr. Sagar C. Neurological Trauma and Critical Care

Dr. Vishiwajit Verma, MD, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar.

Dr. Vishi Verma graduated from India and pursued extensive training in Intensive Care Medicine at various teaching hospitals across the UK. He completed a Neuro Critical Care Fellowship at Cambridge University Hospital. Before moving to Doha, he worked as a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Hospital and was a Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). He is currently employed as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Trauma Surgery at Hamad General Hospital, where his main responsibilities include evaluating, planning, and advising treatment for patients with traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Verma’s primary research interests focus on traumatic brain injury (TBI), particularly in multimodality monitoring and prognostication. He has played a key role in advancing neuro-monitoring techniques, such as brain tissue oxygen monitoring and continuous EEG monitoring. He has written national guidelines for therapeutic temperature management in intracerebral hemorrhage, stroke, and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). He was also part of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) Quality Standards Committee, where he authored national quality standards on head injury.

Recently, Dr. Verma contributed to the 11th edition of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) manual, set to be released next year, as one of the authors of the disability section. He also authored the new skill station for the ATLS manual. He has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and has been the Principal Investigator for several multinational randomized controlled trials, including studies on the use of progesterone in traumatic brain injury.

Dr Ashok Parchani, is Senior Consultant and Ass Director of Trauma Intensive Care Unit. Dr Parchani has been working in a critical area at HMC for more than 25 years. Dr. Fernando Spencer Netto, MD PhD FRCSC, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar
Dr. Fernando graduated and completed residency training in General Surgery at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco – UFPE, Recife – Brazil. Following, he completed Master and PhD degrees in Surgery at the same institution, in association with University of Toronto – Canada. Few years later, Dr. Fernando moved to Toronto, Canada for his post-doc studies and Trauma and Acute Care Fellowship. Dr. Husham Abdelrahman, MD, FRCSI, CABS, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar

Dr. Husham Abdelrahman is the Director of the Trauma Resuscitation Unit at Hamad General Hospital.  He is a professor of clinical surgery at Qatar University Medical College and an assistant professor of clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical School Qatar. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland. He chairs the trauma education office.  Dr. Abdelrahman's medical journey began at Mansoura Medical Faculty, Mansoura University, Egypt. He honed his skills through an internship at Mansoura University Hospital, Egypt, and a General Surgery residency at Hamad General Hospital, Qatar. A Hamad General Hospital, Qatar fellowship further enhanced his Trauma and Surgical Critical Care specialization. He also holds a master's degree in medical education from the Joint Master of Professional Health Education in Suez Canal and Maastricht Universities, Egypt, and a Quality Improvement Fellowship from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).  Dr. Abdelrahman is the author or co-author of over one hundred publications and peer-reviewed articles on trauma and general surgery and has also written two book chapters.   Dr. Abdelrahman's areas of specialization include trauma, general, acute care surgery, and surgical critical care. Dr Bashir worked as an emergency consultant since 2001, initially in the UK for twelve years before coming to Qatar in 2012. As well as completing the American College of Emergency Physicians Teaching Fellowship, he is also a fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Royal College of Surgeons – of both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Dr. Talat Chughtai, MD MSc FRCSC, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar

Dr Talat Chughtai MD, MSc, FRCSC, is a Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon, with Fellowships in Critical Care Medicine and Trauma, who is presently a Senior Consultant in the Dept. of Surgery (Trauma), at Hamad General Hospital, in Doha, Qatar. He was born in Montreal, Canada, where he completed his entire education, including graduating from McGill Medical School, and completing a Masters in Science in Epidemiology. He completed his training in both Montreal (McGill University Health Centre) and Toronto (Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre). He worked at both the Montreal General Hospital as well as Sunnybrook Hospital, before moving to Doha. He has over 40 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters, and is actively involved in education, including being co-Program Director for Trauma medical students and residents, and co-Director of the Trauma fellowship. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Qatar University College of Medicine. Dr Talat is the lead for the Thoracic Trauma Focus Group and has developed the Surgical Stabilizing of Rib Fractures program at Hamad Trauma Center.

Dr. Abdulaziz Hammo, MD, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar

Dr. Hammo is an Associate Consultant in Trauma Surgery department of Hamad General Hospital. He graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Craiova and completed his training in Qatar. He accomplished over 20 years’ experience including emergency department, and trauma surgery in Hamad Medical Corporation. He also completed the Jordan Board of Emergency Medicine (JBEM) and the Fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Ahmad graduated from the University of Jordan, School of Medicine in 1989. Dr. Ahmed Faidh Abdulaziz, MD, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar

Dr. Ahmed Faidh Ramzee is a general surgeon at Hamad Medical Corporation. Originally from Sri Lanka, he earned his undergraduate medical degree from Manipal University, India, and completed his residency in General Surgery at HMC followed by a fellowship in Trauma critical care. His main area of interest is in trauma surgery and is currently pursuing a second fellowship in trauma surgery at the John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle, Australia. Dr. Ramzee is actively engaged in scholarly activities with over 20 peer review publications revolving around trauma and critical care and has presented at numerous international trauma conferences. Dr. Ahmed Aziz Bahi Abdelbari is a graduate of the faculty of pharmacy in Zagazig University in 2006 . Dr. Ahmed Faramawy, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar.

Dr. Ahmed Elfaramawy is a consultant in trauma and critical care surgery.  A 1981 graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University, he began his medical journey with foundational surgical training at Cairo University Hospitals. I further advanced my expertise by earning a Master’s degree in General Surgery in 1986.  He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2000 and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 2010, he completed a specialized Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship, emphasizing the focus on trauma and emergency surgery. Dr. Ammar Al Hassani is Senior Consultant in Trauma Surgery at HMC Doha, Qatar. He is a graduate of Baghdad University Medical School, Iraq.
